APEX Streamer

If you’re reading this, you know how good the DaCapo DAC sounds, even when pitted against some of the best CD players and streamers on the market today.

Unfortunately, the weak point in the Pink Triangle CD offering was always the Cardinal transport. It’s not that it sounds bad, but it is extremely fragile! They aren’t great at tracking CDs, particularly when they are getting a bit old, and often they just won’t play at all.

The fallback is often to use another CD transport, but this loses the massive benefit of Pink Triangle’s “ClockLock” circuit. The DAC is designed to output a clock signal to the transport allowing the transport to lock on to the internal high quality clock in the DAC, giving dramatically improved performance over conventional transports where the clock in the DAC is regenerated from the digital audio stream. CDs also don’t offer the flexibility of current digital music streamers.

Problem solved!

Now you can get the benefit of using ClockLock even without a Pink Triangle Cardinal transport! APEX Electronics has build a digital audio streamer that can be clock-locked to the DaCapo DAC, providing superior sound quality, better even than the original Cardinal transport.  The package includes a bespoke ClockLock card which features an ultra-low-jitter oscillator. This is used to connect your streamer to the DaCapo DAC using two Toslink optical fibres, one for the digital audio signal and a second one to feed the clock signal from the DaCapo back to the transport.

The streamer is designed to play most 44.1kHz audio files including MP3s and FLAC files. We strongly recommend using FLAC files for the best quality audio. The streamer includes an internal 240GB Solid State Hard Drive – enough to store many hours of music. You can also connect external USB memory stick or hard drive, or even connect the streamer to a network storage device (NAS) to give access to your entire music collection.  You can even stream from a variety of online radio stations.  Network connectivity is provided through the rear panel ethernet connector or WiFi can be configured.

Control of the streamer is done through an intuitive user interface which can be accessed through a mobile phones, tablets or computer connected to the same network as the streamer.
